The propeller shaft coupling on the Giulia and Stelvio models are made of rubber and are now starting to crack. The coupling is only available as a complete shaft from Alfa but we have an after market replacement part available.
This 'How To Guide' was based on a Stelvio 2.2 Diesel

The first thing to do is to release the auto handbrake.
Press the MENU button on the centre console to display the menu. Scroll to the bottom and choose 'settings' then on the next page choose 'Driving assistance'.
'Auto park brake' should be on, click it so it shows 'off'.

border='1'

Next click on 'Brake service'.

border='1'

Click 'yes' to release parking brake.

border='1'

'Parking brake retracted' will be displayed, there's nothing more to do on the menu until you've finished the prop shaft.

border='1'

Unbolt the 2x13mm nuts on the exhaust flange in front of the flexi section.

border='1'

Undo the 2x exhaust hanger nuts.

border='1'

Find the connector to the exhaust gas sensor. Pull the grey locking tab 'up' then 'press' it in and pull the connector apart.

border='1'

Loosen the 15mm exhaust clamp nut.

border='1'

Undo the 4x13mm bolts to the exhaust hanger support bracket and remove.

border='1'

Support the rear of the gearbox.

border='1'

Undo the 2xE14 bolts at either end of both the support arms.

border='1'

Undo the E18 bolt in the middle of both supports and remove.

border='1'

Undo the 13mm bolt to the last exhaust hanger and remove the mid section of the exhaust.

border='1'

Remove as many of the 10mm plastic nuts as necessary from the sound deadening under guard on both sides to access the heat shields as the mid section heat shield will need removing.

border='1'

Using a flat head screwdriver unscrew the retaining clips to the heat shields or you can bend out the prongs and prise them off.

border='1'

Undo the 6x10mm nuts at the rear end of the heat shields, with some manoeuvring you can remove the centre heat shield

border='1'

Prise the rear exhaust section from the hanger.

border='1'

Out of the 3x8mm Allen bolts and 3xT45 on the front prop shaft coupling just undo the ones you can get to for now.

border='1'

On the rear rubber coupling, out of the 3xT55 bolts just undo the ones you can easily reach.

border='1'

On the left side of the sump pan there's a M6x1,25 Allen bolt with a lever above. The lever is to put the vehicle into neutral gear so remove the original bolt.

border='1'

Replace the bolt with one longer which will reach and push the lever up. Keep lifting the leaver until you can spin the prop shaft by hand, spin the shaft to expose the coupling bolts that you couldn't access before. Replace the substitute bolt back with the original one to lock the prop shaft again. Undo the remaining coupling bolts.

border='1'

Loosen the front coupling with a soft mallet

border='1'

On the rear rubber coupling the 3x steel bolt sleeves are a shallow press fit so the coupling will need prising apart. It would be best to have a second person to support the prop shaft on removal.

border='1'

Once the prop shaft is off undo the 3x17mm nuts from the 19mm bolts.

border='1'

Split the coupling from the shaft as the 3x steel bolt sleeves are again a shallow press fit.
